Celebrating Women’s History Month this year, we’ve been lucky enough to sit down (virtually) with an incredible range of inspiring, powerful women across the retail and eCommerce industry. First up, Anna Singh – founder of fashion brand Chinti & Parker.
Where did the concept for Chinti & Parker come from?
In 2009, my cousin, Rachael and I found ourselves reflecting on the fact that we would return from the US armed with jersey luxury staples and t-shirts from US based brands. Off the back of this we noticed there was a gap in the UK market, so we decided to create a UK based jersey and knitwear company, with wit, playful and colourful details. Luckily the two of us have similar taste.
How did you make the leap from employee to business owner?
I owned a cosmetics brand called Pout before Chinti & Parker. I gained a lot of fundamental business and marketing experience which helped in the set-up of Chinti & Parker.
Name a woman who inspires you.
Since I was introduced to Brita Fernadez in 2018 she has always been a women I’m inspired by. Her determination, creative thinking and passion is motivating.
What business milestone are you most proud of?
For me a milestone that sticks is getting onto Net-A-Porter in the first year of our business.
What has been the most difficult part of growing your business?
Covid-19 has definitely been the most difficult challenge in business. Over the last year we have gone through significant change and restructure to ensure we could navigate the unknown.
What 3 traits do you think are most important when running a successful business?
Passion, determination and flexibility.
What’s the best business advice you have ever received?
Be open minded and optimistic about change. Adapt and evolve to the consumer.
Any advice to future entrepreneurs?
Be passionate about your work, no one can stop you from being successful. Stay true to your vision and your brand.
