We’re excited to have been highlighted as part of the Innovation in Finance series produced by BBC StoryWorks, which is focusing on how Klarna is reshaping the world of finance. On the occasion of our 15th anniversary, it is impressive to see the incredible impact we’ve had on consumers and merchants across the globe.

What started 15 years ago as a company focused on simplifying buying online, has come to encompass a whole range of end to end consumer shopping solutions used by 85 million shoppers and over 200k merchants globally. And as we continue on our journey, we know that expectations are changing rapidly.

Merchants across the world are increasingly facing a mobile and digital first world, with a retail industry that is as competitive as ever. As retailers are adapting to better serve consumers and their evolving demands, Klarna’s checkout solutions have helped them innovate to provide the optimal consumer journey and experience. And Matsmart is only one example of an innovative retailer we’ve helped to unlock growth and better serve consumers in the best way while growing alongside them.

Consumers on the other hand, are increasingly demanding more transparency, flexibility and intuitive services centred around their needs, while for many, money and shopping patterns are increasingly becoming digital. This has meant that people are increasingly turning their backs on open credit lines and questioning misaligned incentives from retailers and financial services.

We know that with solutions like the Klarna app we can create an experience through which people feel empowered to take control of their daily shopping needs, to help save both time and money. Today US shoppers, among others, can shop at any retailer, pay on their terms, manage their daily finances, receive price drop notifications and get the latest discounts, all from the convenience of their smartphone – in short, a shopping service more tailored around their everyday needs.
