Bea Åkerlund, Founder of The Residency Experience.
How did you start your own business, where did you get the idea for the concept?
I have been self employed as long as I can remember. The Residency Experience was created based on my own needs as a stylist looking for a showroom that could cater to all my projects, and later on it all became a reality.
How did you make the leap from employee to business owner?
I didn’t want to be ruled by other people’s perception on what I should be in this world to make it. So I took it into my own hands embracing who I am and started a business based on my aesthetic and what I envisioned others would gravitate towards.
Who is a woman who inspires you?
My mother, she always taught me to work hard and never settle for anything less than being the best. That also comes with dedication and persistence.
What milestone are you most proud of?
Becoming a mother and juggling my work and family life.
What’s the riskiest move you’ve taken in your business?
Moving and expanding hoping that the change would flourish my business, and it has.
What has been the most difficult part of growing your business?
Being patient and letting time take its toll.
What 3 traits do you think are most important when running a successful business?
Finding a good partner, investing in yourself and having a great team.
What’s the best business advice you have ever received?
Don’t mix business and pleasure they usually collide, but in my case that is not true for I ended up marrying my husband after we met on a project.
Any advice to future entrepreneurs?
Know your place and timing is everything.

I wanted to be part of the campaign because of it’s encouraging message to empower women and the proceeds went to a good cause.
