Klarna supported Accion Andina won the Earthshot prize!

by Sara Davidson

The Earthshot prize – a prestigious benchmark award

The Earthshot Prize was launched by Prince William in 2020 to search for and scale the most innovative solutions to the world’s greatest environmental challenges. Each year hundreds of organizations are proposed for nomination to five different categories, and one organization for each category receive the award. To win the Earthshot prize is a great receipt of the organizations work and accomplishments.

This year, Klarna supported Accion Andina clinched the victory in the “Protect and Restore Nature” category for their commendable endeavors in reforesting the Andes. Our encounter with them during the Climate Week NYC occurred when they were announced as a finalist for the esteemed accolade. Here is an excerpt from our conversation with them, shedding light on their thoughts about the nomination and what it signifies for their mission:

“The Earthshot Prize is a tremendous honor and perhaps the most prestigious award in the environmental arena. It empowers bold solutions to heal our planet by providing access, resources and funding to scale up ideas and innovations. In our case that means to grow our forest conservation and restoration efforts at the ecosystem level across the globe. Being named a finalist is a huge honor in itself. It brings us into a community of environmental champions all in favor of radical optimism in the face of enormous planetary change.”

So how did we get involved?
Through our 1% pledge, we support organizations worldwide that contribute to a more sustainable and resilient climate and environment. The organizations that receive funding, such as Accion Andina, are leading the way in protecting, restoring, and mobilizing engagement in sustainability, contributing to change across a wide array of sectors. While Klarna are key contributors to the initiatives, the outcomes are often the result of combined support from multiple donors – here’s a snapshot of what our 1% pledge has contributed to this far:

  • 100,000 people, including government officials, schools, and community members, have participated in activities through Give One, dedicated to restoring and protecting our planet.
  • In 2022 alone, 43,000 people benefited from livelihood improvement activities related to forest conservation in Kenya and Ghana.
  • Thanks to Give One-supported organizations, 900,000 hectares (2.2 million acres) of habitat across the globe have experienced a positive impact.
  • 3.4 million trees have been planted by organizations supported by Give One, aiding in the restoration and reforestation of vital ecosystems.
