Klarnaut of the Month: Amanda Sadler.

by Andrew Washford Murphy

Curious to learn more about the ins and outs of Klarna? Desperate to get-to-know our super talented and diverse team? Well, we sat down with the recent recipient of our Klarnaut of the Month award – Amanda Sadler – to discuss her Klarna journey thus far, as well as a few other titbits…

What inspired you to work at Klarna?

Klarna actually acquired the company that I was working for but had it been anyone else that had bought us, I would have left. I was really excited to see what Klarna was going to do next, it was relatively new and different and much needed in what was quite a traditional market.

Can you describe working at Klarna in 3 words?

Awesome, fun and unpredictable!

What do you love most about your job?

My team! In the 7 months the team have been together we’ve established a great culture – everyone works autonomously but there is a real team spirit and a great support network. We have a common goal and all play our part in achieving it.

How does what you do influence Klarna?

Working with the UK SME’s means that we have a huge impact on their, very often, growing businesses, and sometimes just by adding Klarna can be the driver in whether they’re successful or not. We really do make a difference to these businesses.

What did you do that got you the Klarnaut of the Month award?

I believe I probably have my team to thank for the nominations. Klarna can be a difficult place to navigate so I try to be helpful in guiding people but also enable them to navigate their own way too.

What’s your day-to-day?

I tend to plan for the day ahead in advance as much as I can, it doesn’t always happen! Daily stand-ups with the team, wins, priorities, opportunities. Sorting leads (these come in from everywhere throughout the day) Managing the inbox’s, 121’s, Domain stuff (2 of them – I sit within Merchan Foundations but we work for the UK business) No 2 days are ever the same!

If you could have 3 dinner guests, who would you pick and why?

  1. David Attenborough; Why would anyone not want him as a dinner guest? He is the most amazing man and I could listen to him for hours.
  2. Billy Connolly; My favourite comedian, he is just the best at swearing!!
  3. Finally, Ruth Bader Ginsburg; what an incredible lady with an incredible life story.

What’s your favourite purchase you’ve ever made using Klarna?

Oooh, that’s difficult, there have been a fair few!!! Either my hotel in Banff for Christmas 2019 (Hotels.com) or my newly acquired kitchen lights from Cox & Cox!

Who is your role model?

Without a shadow of doubt, my mum! I lost my dad when I had just turned 12 and my mum was and has been incredible ever since. A real superwoman.

What’s your favourite Klarna memory?

I think Smoooth week in 2019, in Berlin, just the sheer scale of it all and how much work it must have taken to pull it all together. It was a week of learning and networking and the party at the end was just amazing. Like no other work event I’ve ever been to!

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A lawyer, but now I think that I’d like to be a children’s psychologist, when I eventually grow up!
