What are the signs of identity fraud?

When identity fraud has been committed you may not realise anything has happened until a bill arrives for something you didn’t buy, or you experience problems with your credit rating. There are a number of things you can do to identify if you may be a victim of fraud:

  • Check your bank account and credit card statements regularly. Contact the organisation using trusted details (such as from their website or on your bank card) if there are entries which you do not recognise.
  • Request copies of your credit report from a credit reference agency on a regular basis to check for any entries you don’t recognise. There are a number of free services available including Credit Karma and ClearScore.
  • Contact Royal Mail if you think your post is being stolen or redirected.
