What do we do with your information?

At Klarna we care about our customers and this also applies to you and your privacy. We always collect your personal data responsibly, taking into account your privacy.

It is important to us that you understand how we process your personal information. There are various situations in which we process your information. Typical examples are:

Your identity must be confirmed before your purchase can be approved.
Depending on the chosen payment method, a credit check may be necessary.
We need to prevent unlawful acts such as fraud and money laundering.
If, for example, you place an order with Klarna at an online shop, we need to make sure that the purchase is legitimate and that it is really you making the purchase. Depending on the chosen payment method, it may be necessary to process your credit card details and carry out a credit check. We also use your information to process your payment and send you an invoice.

Depending on the technical set-up between Klarna and the online shop where you made the purchase, we have to pass on some of the information we collect. The most basic reason for this is to provide the merchant with your address so that they know where to send your order. But there may also be situations where the online shop needs to contact you about your order. Data such as your telephone number or email address are helpful in these instances.

Klarna ensures that your personal information is collected with the utmost respect for your privacy. Klarna has a Global Privacy Office, which employs data protection experts. We also have a dedicated customer service team that acts as an extension of our Global Privacy Office to help you with any requests you may have relating to data protection.
