Does Klarna perform a credit check?

As a responsible lender, we want to make sure we’re helping our customers make the right financial decisions for their circumstances, and as such, we may perform a credit check when you use Klarna.

The credit check will not impact your credit score but will be visible to other lenders on your credit report, which might influence their decision.

Depending on the payment method or service you choose, we may or may not perform searches to check your financial standing. We may perform other credit checks for future purchases you make to keep our commitment to lending responsibly.

We will not perform a credit check on you when:

• Signing up to use Klarna
• Downloading the Klarna app

We will perform a credit check when:

• Purchase with a One-time card for the first time
• Choose Klarna as a payment method at check out for the first time
• Make a new purchase, but it has been more than 90 days since we last performed a credit check

A positive repayment record with Klarna will help ensure your ability to check out with Klarna in the future. Of course, if you are late with your payments or fail to pay, this could have a negative impact on your credit score and prevent you from using your Klarna account again.
