1. What is the Klarna Card?
The Klarna Card is a Visa debit card that lets you choose how to pay. By default, you pay directly from your Klarna balance. You can also switch to pay later if you want more flexibility. The card works both online and in-store, anywhere Visa is accepted.
2. Is the Klarna Card a credit card?
No, the Klarna Card is a debit card, not a credit card.
3. What’s the process to get the Klarna Card?
You can apply in the Klarna app. During sign-up, we’ll ask for some details to confirm your identity. Once everything is verified and approved, your Klarna Card and Klarna balance will be ready to use.
4. Who can get the Klarna Card and balance?
You need to meet the following requirements:
Be a UK resident with a valid UK address
Be at least 18 years old
Have a valid identification document
5. What is Klarna balance?
When you apply for the card, you’ll automatically get access to Klarna balance, your built-in e-money account. Add funds, shop, and earn cashback—it all works together with your card. Your e-money account is a product regulated under the Electronic Money Regulations 2011.
6. Will I get an account number with Klarna Balance?
No, you will not get an account number with your Klarna Balance.
7. Does the Klarna Card have any monthly of annual fees?
There are no monthly or annual fees for using the Klarna Card and balance. Fees may apply if you sign up for a paid Klarna membership or use certain pay later plans.
8. Where can I use the Klarna Card?
You can use the Klarna Card anywhere Visa is accepted. A virtual card can be added to your digital wallet (e.g., Apple Pay or Google Pay) for online and in-store contactless payments. A physical Klarna Card is included with a paid Klarna membership.
1. How do the two payment modes work?
Debit mode: Add funds to your Klarna balance and pay instantly with your card as you would with a regular debit card.
Pay later mode: Apply for a pay later plan for your next purchase and choose to pay from your Klarna balance or a connected card.
2. How do I switch between debit and pay later mode?
Switching is simple and instant in the Klarna app. Just follow these steps:
Tap "Plan a purchase"
Request your preferred payment option before your next purchase
Once you've completed your pay later purchase, the card will automatically set back to debit mode
3. Do I need to have money in my Klarna balance to use the card?
Only for debit mode—the card uses funds from your Klarna balance, just like a regular debit card. For pay later mode, you don’t need money in your Klarna balance. You can choose to fund the payment plan using either your Klarna balance or a connected card.
4. Can I change the payment mode after I've made a purchase?
No, you cannot change the payment mode yet. Soon, you'll be able to convert debit purchases into pay later plans. For now, be sure to select your preferred payment method before completing your purchase.
5. Can I change the amount in my current pay later plan?
In case of a higher purchase amount: You must cancel the plan you’ve set and then create another plan for the full purchase amount.
In case of a lower purchase amount: No worries, you’ll only be billed for what you end up using.
6. How do automatic top-ups work?
In the Klarna app, tap your Klarna balance and activate automatic top-ups. Set your top-ups to occur regularly or whenever your balance drops below an amount you choose.
1. When will I be charged for a pay later plan?
You'll only be charged after you make a purchase and the merchant processes the payment.
2. How do repayments work with pay later plans?
Your scheduled repayments are clearly shown in the Klarna app Payments tab just like any purchase.
3. How do I cancel a pay later plan?
To cancel a pay later plan follow the below steps in the Klarna app:
Tap on the plan you created
Select “Cancel plan”
4. Are there fees for using the Klarna Card?
There are no annual fees, and using the card in debit mode is free. Pay later options clearly display any fees or interest upfront in the app. Charges may apply when enrolling in a paid Klarna membership.
5. What if a payment doesn't go through?
If a payment fails, we'll immediately notify you in the app. You can retry the payment or easily contact our support team for assistance.

4. Are the funds in my Klarna balance secured?
Your Klarna balance is safeguarded under UK E-money regulations. It's not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Your full balance is still secured, even if Klarna goes out of business.
