Here at Klarna, the safety and security of our customers is our top priority, and today we are excited to announce that we’ve launched One-Time Passwords (OTP) for our Pay in 30 days product.

The introduction of OTP will increase authentication and customer security at checkout, further enhancing our sophisticated security measures.

What’s new?

When making a Klarna purchase using our Pay in 30 days products, our customers will now be asked to enter a One-Time Password (OTP). This will automatically be sent to the customer via SMS to their mobile device. The password must be entered in the checkout when prompted before a customer will be able to complete their order.

Introducing One-Time Passwords.

Frequently asked questions.

Why did I receive a One-Time Password (OTP)?

At Klarna our top priority is the safety and security of our customers. As a result, we are constantly enhancing our customer experience to make sure that you are protected against unauthorized purchases.  OTP provides you with an extra layer of security and protection when purchasing online with Klarna. Klarna uses OTP to help verify that the person initiating a purchase is the rightful owner of the details entered at checkout. If required, an OTP is sent to your registered device and the purchase can not be completed without the purchaser entering the correct OTP, so should your personal details be compromised, this extra layer of authentication can help in preventing you from becoming a victim of fraud.

What is a One-Time Password (OTP)?

A one-time password or ‘OTP’ is a unique 6-digit code that Klarna may send to your registered device to verify that it is you making a purchase. An OTP can only be used once and, when sent, you shall be required to enter the correct OTP to complete your purchase. Without the correct OTP, a purchase can not be completed. For further information on how you can protect yourself against fraud, please see

Can I change my phone number?

Yes you can change your mobile number. We will use your pre-filled number that you provided at the checkout, however, if you would like to change it when prompted for the OTP this will be an available option.

I was prompted to enter a One-Time Password (OTP), but never received the message. What should I do?

Please verify that the phone number you provided was a valid mobile number. It can take up to 5 minutes for the OTP to arrive. If you continue experiencing issues, you are welcome to try to check out again.

How long is my OTP valid for?

You have 5 minutes to complete your OTP authentication.

I didn’t receive my OTP, can you resend the password?

Yes – if you don’t receive the SMS, you always have the option of sending a new OTP to your phone.
