How much am I eligible to spend?

How much am I eligible to spend?

There is no predefined spending limit when using Klarna. Instead, a new automated approval decision about how much you can spend with us is made each time you pay with Klarna.

To see your estimated amount to spend:

  • Tap More
  • Navigate to Purchase power
  • Follow the prompts to check the estimated amount you can spend on your next purchase

What is Purchase power?

Purchase power is a personalised estimate based on your financial profile. It shows the maximum amount Klarna would likely be able to offer you right now. It is not the same as a credit limit. A credit limit is an amount a lender has already decided you can borrow. Purchase power is an estimate that can change over time.

It is recalculated regularly based on your current financial profile, your history with Klarna, and other factors. Each purchase is still assessed separately at checkout. That means purchase power is not always the exact amount you can use for a specific purchase. Depending on the purchase, you may see fewer payment options, a required down payment, or no Pay later option at all.

Why was my purchase declined, or why do I see fewer payment options than I expected?

Purchase power shows how much you may be eligible to spend with Klarna as an estimate. The specific payment options you see at checkout depend on more than that number alone. The store you shop with, which payment plans are available for that purchase, and the terms of each option are determined separately when you check out.

That means you might see fewer options, different terms, or be asked for a down payment, even when your purchase is within your purchase power amount. Purchase power is not a pre-approved credit limit. A decline for one purchase does not always mean future purchases will have the same outcome.

Why did my Purchase power go down?

Purchase power is recalculated regularly based on your current financial profile, your history with Klarna, and other factors. It can go up or down over time.

It may decrease when you make purchases with Klarna, since this increases what you currently owe. It can also go down if you have missed or overdue payments, or if your credit information changes.

Making on-time payments may help your purchase power recover, but the amount is not based on any single factor, so a change does not always point to one specific cause.

My Purchase power is £0

If it shows as £0, there may be no estimated amount available for a Pay later purchase right now. In some cases, that is because you have already used the amount currently available to you. Making payments towards your outstanding purchases can help your purchase power recover over time.

My Purchase power is not available

If your purchase power shows as unavailable, Klarna cannot currently offer Pay later purchases on your account. This can happen because of overdue or failed payments, or based on the information Klarna currently has about you. If you have overdue or failed payments, settle them to restore your chance to shop with Klarna and to view your purchase power in the app.

Good to know: If you are using the Shopping extension on your browser you can see your estimated purchase power when creating a One-time card.

How long does Purchase power take to update after I make a payment?

Purchase power usually updates after your payment has been processed, but it can take a little time before the change shows in the app. In some cases, it may take a few days.

How can I increase my Purchase power?

Purchase power can increase over time when you build a strong payment history with Klarna. Paying on time, settling any outstanding balance, and avoiding overdue or failed payments can all help.

These steps may improve your chances over time, but they do not guarantee a specific amount or approval for a specific purchase. Customer Service cannot manually increase your purchase power.

Is Purchase power different from prequalification?

Purchase power and prequalification are related, but they are not the same thing.

Purchase power is a general estimate of what may be available for your next Pay later purchase in the app. Prequalification is store-specific. It estimates what may be available for a purchase at a specific store and for the payment options offered there.

Because prequalification is tied to a specific store, the amount shown there may be different from the purchase power shown in the app. Both are estimates, not guarantees, and the final decision is still made when the purchase is assessed at checkout.

You can make up to 3 prequalification attempts at each store within 48 hours.

Why is purchase power different for the Klarna Credit Card vs Pay later products?

The billing of the Klarna Credit Card is invoiced monthly instead of bi-weekly, therefore, requirements and eligibility differ.

Why is there no available purchase power for my Klarna Credit Card?

Purchase power is activated when the Klarna Credit Card purchase is approved.

If you've used your Klarna Credit Card before but purchase power is unavailable, the reason is displayed in a pop-up message in the app. Be sure to follow the instructions to generate a new estimated spending limit.
