The challenge

CarTrawler set out to improve conversion and loyalty across its global rental platform by meeting rapidly shifting traveler expectations, particularly around mobile-first booking and non-upfront payments. Travelers were increasingly demanding flexibility for higher value rentals and longer lead-time trips. The solution

CarTrawler integrated Klarna’s flexible payment options across North America and Europe, including Pay Later and interest-free installments, to reduce booking friction and empower customers to choose how and when they pay. Klarna’s mobile-first checkout proved especially impactful, attracting premium, digitally engaged travelers. As usage grew, so did loyalty: Klarna users booked more often, spent more, and consistently chose Klarna again, making it a strategic lever for revenue, retention, and mobile conversion.

Klarna quickly proved its value across CarTrawler’s platform, delivering three standout outcomes that reshaped both customer behavior and commercial performance.

    Klarna users consistently delivered stronger revenue quality, spending 11% more than card users and 12% above the platform average, showing that flexible payments drive confidence in premium rentals.

  2. Rapid adoption across key markets
    Klarna bookings surged 37% YoY, and wallet share grew 22%, with especially strong traction in the Nordics, UK, and Italy, proving that travelers actively prefer Klarna once it’s made available.

  3. Loyalty that strengthens with scale
    Repeat booking rates increased by 4.4% and the share of customers choosing Klarna again nearly doubled, showing that Klarna doesn’t just convert customers – it keeps them coming back.
